Car Rental CEO: What’s On In January On The Gold Coast

The Gold Coast doesn’t quieten down immediately after the festive season, according to the CEO of Gold Coast Family Car Rentals, Darryl Essington-Wilson. Instead, he assures those who hire his rentals, and others visiting the area that the Gold Coast will enter 2019 in a way that’s typical of an area fast earning its status as one of Australia’s major event areas the year round.

The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival 2019

For those visitors that are horse-lovers, Darryl recommends The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Carnival to be held from January 4 to 15. These eleven days will have everything to do with horses - and fun. The carnival includes Pacific Fair Magic Millions polo and the Gold Coast yearling sale, as well as the sight of thoroughbred horses pounding along the beach at Surfers Paradise early on January 8 before a barrier draw is taken for the $2million 2YO Classic. A breakfast market will offer access to food and beverages for watchers. The 2YO Classic is one of nine races to be run for a total of $10 million in prize money on Star Gold Coast Magic Millions Raceday at the Gold Coast Turf Club on January 12. The Harrolds Fashions on the Field competition will also add colour to the occasion and the 11-day programme will be studded with dinners, luncheons and more. World Champion racehorse “Winx” was purchased at the Gold Coast Magic Millions.

Food & Wine Expo

Some wine and food lovers may still be battling to recover from the seasonal festivities, holiday dinners and the like, and may have added a no wining or dining resolution to their New Year’s resolutions. However, Darryl says they will get the chance to tickle, tempt, and reactivate their taste buds between January 11 and 13. That’s when the travelling Food & Wine Expo brings its show to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre in Broadbeach, kicking off its 2019 tour that will include Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and Newcastle later in the year. Celebrity chefs from series like My Kitchen Rules and MasterChef are to stage an interactive cooking show, and there will be an array of cooking demos, wine and food tastings, and the chance to attend cheese and wine appreciation classes.

Other Options at the GCCC

While the chefs prepare treats for the senses of taste and smell, the Health Harmony Soul Expo will offer different sustenance at the Convention Centre during the same weekend. In this case, seminars, performances, yoga, meditation classes, and tarot readings will aim at visitors’ health, well-being, and spirituality.

Darryl says music lovers also have something to look forward to. Those who remember Motown music won’t want to miss the Motown party on January 15. Stars will include Rock n Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Jacksons; Kool & the Gang; Village People; Sister Sledge, The Pointer Sisters, and more and the GCCC will echo to the sounds of songs like “Can You Feel It?”, “Celebration”, “Slow Hand”, “YMCA” and “Can’t Stop the Music”. In addition, those looking for music that's a far cry from Motown may find what they are looking for in Hotter than Hell to be staged at Broadwater Parklands on January 27. This brings together Australian legends from a couple of decades ago such as Spiderbait, Killing Heidi, Shihad and Jebediah, as well as the reunited Magic Dirt.

And if the thought of any sort of music is enough to set the feet twitching, January visitors can opt for attending The Showcase Australian Dance Championships at the GCCC anytime between January 14 and January 20. Shows will be staged continuously from 8.30 am to 9 pm during the seven-day period.
