Newquay Surf Lodge Reports A Surge in Summer Bookings

Jul 22, 2016

The Escape Surf Lodge in Newquay has received a boost in summer bookings thanks to the hot, sunny weather.

A hotel in Newquay is reporting a surge in bookings for its ‘surf lodge’ style accommodation as the North Cornwall coast basks in glorious summer sunshine.

The Escape Surf Lodge in Newquay is enjoying one of its strongest seasons to date as fine weather inspires more people to flock to the UK’s surf capital for their holidays and weekend breaks.

Gerry Saunders, owner and manager at The Escape, has seen a 20% increase in bookings on last summer, which he attributes to the prolonged spell of sizzling sunshine.

He commented: “Whenever its sweltering like this, we tend to get eluded with enquiries from people who want to escape to the coast. It’s natural for people to want to be beside the sea in weather like this.”

The budget Newquay hotel specialises in hostel accommodation featuring small dormitories for groups, as well as family rooms. This type of accommodation has become known locally as a surf lodge, thanks to the large number of visitors who use these hostel type premises as a base for surfing at nearby beaches.

Newquay is the best known beach resort for British surfing. There are many fine, sandy beaches in and around the town, including world renowned Fistral Beach which hosts the annual Boardmasters festival featuring some of the world’s top professional surfers.

This high profile means the town is a draw for people who enjoy or want to try riding waves, and there are several quality surf schools in the town which provide surf lessons for novices.

The Escape Surf Lodge is a popular choice for these people travelling to Newquay for surfing adventures, thanks to its proximity to local beaches and town centre nightlife.

With a solid start to the summer season, Gerry Saunders is looking forward to the remainder of the peak holiday period.

“It’s a very exciting time of year, especially when it’s hot and sunny like this,” said Gerry. “It’s great to see everyone arrive and the town filling up with people at the start of their summer holidays. If the past week is anything to go by it’s going to be a cracker.”
