What’s behind the current eyebrow maintenance trend known as microblading? From “A” list celebrities to the woman on the street, semi-permanent makeup shows no signs of slowing down.

Eyebrow Microblading is a beauty trend that is not showing any sign of weakening. You may have heard it referred to by many different names such as embroidery, Phibrows, micro feathering, micro shading, powdered brows, soft hair stroke, 3D, or 4D brows. These are all essentially a form of semi-permanent makeup that collectively have become know as microblading.

According to Vu Dang the owner of Brows By Vu Dang https://www.browsbyvudang.com “The reason microblading has become so popular is that it is a great way for people who have sparce, thin, uneven, or asymmetrical eyebrows to change their appearance in a way that looks natural and is low maintenance.”

A typical microblading session lasts two to three hours which includes a consultation, facial preparation, and the actual proceeding itself. “Aside from the visual problems it can correct, microblading also is very convenient. Most women spend a lot of time applying makeup to their eyebrows to get the look just right. Semi-permanent makeup solves that problem giving you brows that are ready to go as soon as you get out of bed.” Says Vu.

Microblading typically consists of 2 sessions. The first is for the consultation and main procedure, the second is for a follow up 3-5 weeks later. After the follow up most women can expect their newly designed brows to last for 1 to 2 years before starting to fade. Microblading falls into the category of semi-permanent makeup due to the fact that is does not last as long as a traditional tattoo.

“Eyebrow trends change every 5-10 years, so you do not want a look that may not suit you 10 years from now. Microblading allows you to have low maintenance brows with the flexibility of keeping up with new trends” says Vu. “Traditionally you had two options; start from scratch every day, or commit to a long term tattoo.”

Microblading artists such as Vu Dang use a variety of methods to duplicate the look of natural eyebrows. This is done by carefully drawing one hair at a time to achieve the look that the client wants. Some clients are looking to fill in and thicken their brows, others want a whole new shape. “The microblading tools that we use today are specially designed just for eyebrows.” say Vu, “And most artists in this field are specialist as well. You have to be to give the client the absolute best results.”

The cost of microblading varies from location to location but is typically in the $350-$600 range, for a two session treatment.
