A Simple Alternative To Modern Dentistry Using Blotting Brushes

Feb 7, 2021

Let’s face it: there’s not a whole lot of information available out there that gives people a choice on how to care for their teeth and gums

There’s brushing and flossing and a million different kinds of brushes and toothpastes and flosses with which to do this, which brings us back to the basic brushing and flossing.

Bearing in mind that 90% of all Americans suffer from some sort of gum disease (yes, children too), and most people over 60 have no teeth at all, is brushing and flossing really the answer?

80% of diseases start in the mouth.

You read that right - 80%

I learned that gem of information from a symposium on dentistry in 2016.

There and then I decided it was time I looked after my teeth and gums better than I had done.

All it took was a good reason!

I've never liked fluoride in dental products. Fluoride is classified as a neurotoxin but dentists still recommend it. That alone speaks volumes!

Whose side are dentist's on?

In certain countries mercury ('amalgam') fillings remain common. Another neurotoxin.

And the time I spent brushing my teeth was minimal - I spent longer washing under my arms and shampooing my hair than brushing my teeth.

The good news is that in 2001 my wife came across a toothbrush and technique for removing more plaque and other oral debris than conventional brushing offered.....and it's been used successfully since the late 1960's.

We've used this new toothbrush every day since then

Described as "The toothbrush that puts all other toothbrushes to shame" the concept of this toothbrush was developed by a periodontist who dedicated his practice to helping patients prevent tooth decay and gum disease, insisting that teeth can always be saved rather than removed or drilled.

We've used these brushes since first coming across them. I bought a tube of toothpaste a few years ago and it's only been half used. I use it mainly to clean the glass on my mask when snorkelling.

I'm also pleased that no dentist is going to pull the wool over my eyes ever again with recommendations to have unnecessary gum surgery, root canals or removal of teeth.

We make the occasional appointment for a checkup and what does the dentist give us? The same clean bill of health as last year and the year before!

The developer of the brushes Dr Joseph Phillips wrote: "Of course, no matter how well you have cleaned the teeth, your mouth still remains 90% dirty, as teeth occupy on 10% of the surface of your mouth, so it is just as important to clean the gums, cheeks, roof, floor and tongue as well. Learn how to eliminate bad breath without mouthwash. The Blotting Technique achieves all of this and more."

And a first time user wrote....

"I’ve only been using the brush for a couple of weeks. I have teeth with hardly any gaps in between, flossing never worked properly, I got nagged by the dentist every time I went to see her. Today I went, she said, “You have absolutely no plaque at all!” I love these brushes, you can blot when watching TV or reading. It’s quite addictive! And relaxing! I am spreading the word. I tried to explain to my dentist but she wasn’t interested." Katherine Flanagan Stockton On Tees
