So you've finally decided to move to Canada, eh? Here's your first piece of advice: don't get cold feet!

Ok, I'll admit, that was lame. I've been trying to come up with a suitable immigration joke - but they all crossed the line.

Fine, I'll stop.

Here's the real advice: if you do want to move to Canada - and you happen to speak French fluently - you have to check out the Francophone Mobility Program!

To help you understand all the requirements, Ivan Steele Law compiled a guide which explains how you, as a French-speaking immigrant in a skilled occupation, can get a work permit outside of Quebec.

To qualify, you should have a job offer in a skilled occupation such as aeronautics and avionics, finance, information technology, and multimedia. And that's just to name a few!

And now comes the best part:

“You can apply even if you live in a country where French is not normally spoken and your first language is any language other than French,” explains Ivan Steele. “You should, however, take Test d’évaluation de français (TEF) or Test de connaissance du français (TCF) to have your language abilities assessed. You will need to score CLB 7 for each of the four abilities: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.”

Aside from being open to anyone who speaks French fluently, the program also shortens the immigration process and reduces costs for the employer by bypassing the standard Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) requirement, which can be a complex and time-consuming process. This is also beneficial for you because it means you get your work permit much faster!

On top of that, there is no age limit and you can apply for the work permit at the same time as your spouse or common-law partner. Plus, if you have kids, they may attend primary and secondary schools in Canada. Along with said benefits, compared to International Experience Canada, this lesser-known process also makes it easier for you to obtain permanent residence.

While the application process is more straightforward and has fewer requirements than Canada's other immigration programs, you should consult an immigration lawyer to ensure you meet all requirements. You don't wanna delay your permit and new life in Canada because you messed up your application!

Luckily, Ivan Steele can make sure you pass with flying colours. Based in Toronto, the law firm has a proven track record in handling complex immigration cases.

“Our law firm can evaluate the applicants to determine if they qualify, guide them through the requirements of the process, and help them navigate ever-changing rules and regulations,” says Ivan Steele.

So, now that you know about this often overlooked immigration program, what are you waiting for? Go find yourself a nice job in Canada and start your application process!

Don't you let those moose attack statistics scare you! You're just as likely to be hit by lightning - anywhere in the world - as you are to be kicked by a moose. Moose-related traffic accidents are a different beast - but that shouldn't stop you either! Anywhere you go, the main cause of traffic accidents are drivers.
