Rocky Mountaineer Train Colorado: Your Bucketlist Rail Trip from Denver to Moab

Dec 13, 2023

If you have a case of wanderlust, Rocky Train Vacations (888 589 3777) lets you wander and see all the wonders – book your Rocky Mountaineer tour.

All aboard! America is experiencing a railway travel revival - with record bookings reported in 2023. Some say this is due to many people experiencing - and loving! - rail travel on their trips to Europe.

And it's easy to see why railway travel is so popular (and honestly, I'd question why we didn't do it more often previously).

Here are just some of the benefits:

  • you can enjoy the scenery
  • it's better for the environment
  • there are fewer delays

And, if you book your railway tour with Rocky Train Vacations, you'll also get to enjoy the kind of luxury that cars and planes just can't match. I'm talking of course about the famed Rocky Mountaineer train - known far and wide as the best way to explore the breathtaking Colorado and Utah landscapes.

If this is your bucketlist trip, good news! For 2024, you can choose from three Denver to Moab tours - both available for booking with SilverLeaf and SilverLeaf Plus train service. While both options offer a luxury travel experience, the latter also includes exclusive access to the lounge car with indoor and outdoor areas for relaxation and sightseeing, plus additional courses and premium alcoholic beverages.

The Denver to Moab tours are available in 2-day to 6-day packages - with special 7-day packages available for those wishing to extend their trip to Las Vegas or Salt Lake City. An overnight stop in the resort town of Glenwood Springs is included in all packages.

More on that soon, as we take a look at the three packages available for the 2024 season:

The Perfect Weekend Getaway

The 2-day tour is an affordable yet luxurious way to experience the breathtaking sights this route is known for. Sit back in your car, or visit the lounge car for a better view, and enjoy the beautiful canyons, natural archways, hoodoos, and everything in between.

You'll also have a one-night stay in Glenwood Springs, home to Glenwood Hot Springs - the largest hot spring in the world! That's an unmissable stop - just put it on your itinerary immediately.

Once you reach Moab, you'll have plenty of time to explore all the natural beauties the Canyonlands National Park has to offer - and if you've seen pictures, you know there are many.

The Long Weekend Getaway

If you can spare two more days, however, I recommend booking the 4-day tour    •it's literally dubbed "Getaway". You'll have extra time to explore Moab, as you will stay overnight at one of the hotels in the city.

So don't forget to explore both the Canyonlands National Park and the Arches National Park - both are absolutely stunning. Plus, you probably want to take that famous Arches National Park Instagram photo, right?

The Classic 6-Day Tour

Okay, this one's the ultimate luxury Rocky Mountaineer experience - the 6-day tour, also known as the “6-Day Classic”, includes overnight stays in Denver, Glenwood Springs, and Moab.

So aside from having plenty of time to explore the world's largest hot spring and two of America's national parks, you'll also get to explore Denver. From the Denver Botanic Gardens and the Larimer Square to the 16th Street Mall, whatever you want. You get a full day to just wander around.

And since you'll have more time in Moab, too, you may want to try some fun activities like hot air balloon rides, rock climbing, or ziplining. Moab has a lot to offer - just make sure to plan your trip so you don't miss out on stuff.
