How do I act during an active shooter situation? First, you need to stay calm and apply the A.L.I.V.E. strategies!
Recent events have taught us that life is fleeting. One moment you’re just trying to live your life, the next moment, you’re in an active shooter situation. NO ONE wants to be in the middle of a terrorist attack - but if the worse comes to worst, would you know how to handle yourself?
A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter is an online survival training program. The two-hour course teaches you the five key steps to survive an active shooter situation.
The modules include everything you need to know about why active shooters do what they do and how to build situational awareness to stay alive. In particular, the course teaches the five steps of A.L.I.V.E.: Assess the situation, Leave when possible, Impede if capable, avoid Violence, and seek to Expose.

Here, you will be better prepared to recognize potentially violent events before they happen and properly respond to them. Further, the training also allows you to live more confidently and help other people if ever you are faced with an active shooter situation.
The curriculum begins with explaining why people may want to resort to violence. By understanding the mindset of an active shooter, you will then learn how to perform the first step of A.L.I.V.E. which is to Assess the situation. Part of this assessment includes gauging the motivation of the shooter so that an action plan can be made.
This action plan includes the other steps of A.L.I.V.E. You are taught to remain calm and leave, impede, avoid, and expose. You will also do practical exercises that will help you to be prepared for the worst-case scenario.
The entire program is taught by Michael Julian, a well-known and respected security enforcement officer. Having worked in security practically all his life, Julian knows how dangerous and frightening an active shooter can be. He believes that surviving an active shooter situation heavily relies on your ability to quickly react to it.
This includes whether you should talk to the shooter or just find a way out of there. Remember - it’s all about how you assess the situation. This is the first step, because it’s the most important one.
The brand-new A.L.I.V.E. power course adds to the compendium of available courses taught by Julian. Aside from the online course, there is also in-person training available.
A grateful student wrote, "In the face of mass shootings, many people and organizations get stuck as far as how to prepare for such an incident. A.L.I.V.E. Active Shooter training empowers participants to take action and know why they are doing it. The content is on point and the delivery is nicely done to make the whole course easy to digest and apply."
