On the Safer Internet Day, the DQ Institute launched a new Digital Citizenship test (DCT) as a way to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for individuals of all ages, and inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, critically, and creatively. Digital Citizenship test (DCT) is an easy and simple online/mobile test to help individuals and organizations to check their type of digital citizen which shows how ready they are to use technology safely and responsibly.

On the Safer Internet Day, the DQ Institute launched a new Digital Citizenship test (DCT) as a way to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for individuals of all ages, and inspire a national conversation about using technology responsibly, critically, and creatively. Digital Citizenship test (DCT) is an easy and simple online/mobile test to help individuals and organizations to check their type of digital citizen which shows how ready they are to use technology safely and responsibly.

The global disruption in the past two years has accelerated the digital transformation, where digital skills are now must-have criteria for every individual, in order to bridge the digital gap. Along with the digital skills, online safety and positive use of digital technology, a new emerging requirement faced the global digital society, and that is digital citizenship. 

Digital citizenship is a skill set required to use technology safely, responsibly, and confidently. As the first step of the IEEE digital intelligence (DQ) Global Standards (IEEE 3527.1™), digital citizenship is considered as a prerequisite for other digital skills, such as coding, cyber security, and other job-readiness technical skills.

Digital Citizenship Test (DTC)

Based on years of research, the DQ Institute developed a set of questions that effectively evaluates the digital citizenship level of individuals, which is called the Digital Citizenship Test (DCT). It is an easy and simple online/mobile test to help individuals and organizations to check their type of digital citizen which shows how ready they are to use technology safely and responsibly. 

Connected with the DQ Index, the results from the DCT are immediately updated to the index in order to showcase where each country stands. This allows the countries to effectively utilize resources and to inclusively improve their digital skill levels, creating a positive impact. The level of digital citizenship in a country is a strong sign of whether their DQ Index score is high or not.

Based on the DQ Institute’s global databank, the DQ Institute identified the following 5 different types of digital citizens showing different patterns of digital skills, technology usage (usage), and cyber risk exposure. 

Carefree

•Feels more comfortable online than offline

•Potentially involved with various cyber-risks

Ordinary

•Average technology user who may not be fully aware of the risks or opportunities 

•Tend to passively follow the algorithm 

Always-On

•Likely communicate with others a lot online 

•May not consider much about potential cyber-risks

Cautious

•Being aware of potential cyber-risks and not fully exploring the digital world

•Likely having low risks in the digital world

DigiLog 

•Well-rounded digital citizen who balances online and offline lives 

•Uses technology mindfully
