Bosch describes step one as figuring it out. To combat a negative emotion, it is firstly vital to understand which emotion, such as anger, sadness, or fear, is causing the issue. Step two is to accept it – Bosch urges readers to “take stock of the feeling.” She states that “emotions are a part of being human, and they all have something to teach you.”

Steps three and four involve questioning the emotion and remembering the last time you experienced it. Questioning an emotion facilitates control and provides a chance to learn something new. Remembering how it has been previously dealt with provides hope, insight, and empowerment.

Dr. Bosch describes the importance of looking forward to the future in step five. She concludes that the emotion will return at some point and that it may perhaps be a good idea to visualize dealing with the emotion positively. Finally, in step six, Bosch advises you to get moving and put plans into action.
