Unlike most Japanese language schools in Singapore, Crystal Learning provides students with the rare opportunity to learn in a small class setting. Such small classes have been found to speed up participants’ learning by a factor of 2.

A spokesperson for the school says, “When calculated by the hour, the classes cost slightly more. But learners get a higher quality of learning and learn more Japanese, dollar for dollar.”

Despite the small groups, Crystal Learning’s rates are considered highly affordable. As their students tend to stay longer, the school saves on marketing costs, which allows it to offer competitive rates.

“Small classes is what we do - across all our languages,” says Alex Lim, Crystal Learning centre’s director. “Our entire school is built for it, with smaller classroom sizes. We really believe this is the best way to learn a new language.”

The classes are available in-person at the Singapore centre or via Zoom. Online classes will have the same limit of eight participants.

Crystal Learning’s Japanese course focuses on the practical aspects of the language. From day one, you will learn to converse and communicate efficiently in Japanese instead of starting with grammar lessons and theories.

The course is especially ideal if you seek to work and live in Japan, and intend to develop deeper relationships with the locals. Its approach is conversational where grammar isn’t a goal but a means to be better understood.

The course is conducted by Taiyo Japanese Language School using proprietary materials developed by the school. It is administered in progressive levels aligned with the levels of the JLPT exam. With undivided attention, you can expect to complete a level in 10 weeks.

If you're a Singaporean 25 years or older, the classes are SkillsFuture claimable, which means you can pay for the course with your government-issued SkillsFuture credit.
