Health Insurance in Austin Could be Dismantled In Based On Senator Proposal

Austin health insurance continues to receive promising reviews from insurers and the millions of Americans who previously could not afford proper health insurance coverage. But that doesn’t mean the long-embattled Affordable Care Act bill doesn’t still have its share of critics. In fact, one senator, in particular, has gone on record to call out the ACA and what he refers to a devastating 129% increase in individual healthcare costs. Senator Mike Lee would instead like to see the ACA dismantled for good in hopes of paving the way for new legislation that could turn the tide when it comes to his claims of skyrocketing healthcare prices in his state.

Lee’s claims aren’t just limited to his state of Utah, insinuating that these problems could eventually expand to other areas, including effects on those individuals and families with health insurance in Austin. Lee is arguing for a free market system, saying that rather than expand or extend the ACA, he would like to see a new healthcare system that puts Americans and their doctors back in charge, saying during a panel discussion at the America First Policy Institute summit in Washington last month that, “If you allow the worker to get pretax dollars, get non-tax dollars, and allow the worker to purchase his or her own health insurance on the open market rather than having the tax benefit following the employer, that’s a big step in that direction in and of itself,” he said.

Rick Thornton, an Austin health insurance agent, says the long-embattled Affordable Care Act will continue to have its share of detractors. Lee, in particular, noted that inflation has cost the average American family $718 more per month for basic items since the start of 2021. Inflation is nothing new in America, but Lee insists it has become more of an issue with the ongoing government intervention into healthcare spending.
