Sadly, active shooter events are becoming more and more frequent, particularly in the United States. With this increase in frequency comes a need for more active shooter survival training. Whether you're in HR or security, the A.L.I.V.E. Instructor Certification Course teaches you how you can save lives during an active shooter event, and just as importantly, how to train others to do the same.
Before the 2-day course starts, you're expected to do some preliminary studying. This involves reading A.L.I.V.E. founder Michael Julian’s book “10 Minutes to Live: Surviving an Active Shooter Using A.L.I.V.E,” which is included with enrollment, as well as reviewing the A.L.I.V.E. Online Training Course, which is the foundation for all A.L.I.V.E. instruction.
"A.L.I.V.E. stands for Assess, Leave, Impede, Violence, and Expose," said Julian. "These are the steps that anyone can take to more effectively respond should you ever be confronted with an active shooter situation, terrorist attack, violent attacker in the workplace, and other potentially deadly events."
During training, you get an in-depth breakdown of A.L.I.V.E., a full review and breakdown of the A.L.I.V.E. training presentation, professional speaking and presentation skills instruction, and marketing training to promote the course. Throughout the course, there are also video-recorded “teach back” assignments, which are evaluated by peers and instructors.
Topics covered during the course include case studies of active shooter events, recognition of warning signs, the security and survival mindset, basic disarming and attack methods, and active shooter "do's" and "don'ts." You'll also learn 20 tips for effective public speaking, passionate message delivery tools, how to handle disturbing and emotional content, and presentation preparation and follow-up. The course is participation-intensive and requires you to be comfortable being active and getting involved.
The end of the course includes a final exam and graduation. If you pass the exam you get a Certificate of Completion of the A.L.I.V.E. Instructor Certification Course. You’re also added to the A.L.I.V.E. Affiliate Program where you earn a commission for every person you refer to the company for training.
