Daydreaming about joining an expedition to the Antarctic? Polar Journal is your #1 source for anything and everything to do with polar tourism, culture, politics, and more.

At The Ends Of The Earth

Beyond the passing pity for the poor polar bear, the average person doesn't seem to give a second thought to the vast and fascinating world that lies at our planet's most extreme latitudes. This is a shame, though, because the wonders that are to be discovered there are well worth the 700-mile journey from the nearest land that one must undertake to reach Antarctica.

Perhaps the most popular, or at least well-known, Arctic Circle experience lies in northern Finland. The Igloo Hotel experience offers one of the best opportunities to enjoy the Northern Lights in comfort and style. However, "comfort and style" to a true adventurer is much the same as "fast casual" to a professional chef. Sure, your appetite is sated, but are you really fulfilled?

As it happens, nearly 100,000 people visit the Arctic and Antarctic circles each year, though the vast majority of those people do so aboard luxury cruise ships. The number of people who visit the Antarctic landmass each year is dramatically smaller at around 2,000 people, though, as Polar Journal explains, those who do are richly rewarded for their efforts.

So, what if you are looking to join that exclusive club? For those rare experiences that you won't see on Instagram, we must turn instead to the new Polar Journal news platform.

Polar Journal: Your Source For All Things Arctic

Polar Journal was established to share the fascinating stories of adventure and discovery from extreme latitudes that much of the world ignores. Despite the reputation of poles as barren landscapes, the site offers a glimpse into the rare and remarkable opportunities that polar tourism can present, both to scientists and hobbyists alike.

A spokesperson summed up their work with the following quote: “Every month, we deliver captivating stories, detailed reports, and up-to-date insights from the polar regions. Our dedicated team of journalists and guest contributors work on the ground to bring you what truly matters: from groundbreaking scientific discoveries and political developments to the daily lives of those who call these regions home.”

Exploring The Oldest Frontier

Following the launch of this site, Polar Journal hopes to offer a dedicated hub for all polar expeditions, large and small. If you are interested in traveling to the North and South Poles, you should check back frequently to catch the launch of their expedition hub, coming sometime in 2025, or to learn about new polar job opportunities that may be available now.

Social Impact

Of course, a major aspect of any discussion regarding these areas of the world must include climate change, which is also covered by Polar Journal. They offer insights into the many threats facing the inhabitants—both human and animal—of the polar regions and the efforts being made to slow the degradation of these pristine regions of the world.
