R3CCI and Ministry Launch BRAVE Centre to Support Men and Youth in Region 3

Jul 25, 2025

The Region Three Chamber of Commerce and the Ministry of Human Services launched the BRAVE Centre, a transformative space supporting men’s mental health and youth development. This public-private initiative empowers healing, accountability, and growth, setting a national example for inclusive, community-driven social impact.

Breaking Cycles, Building Futures

How Region Three’s Private Sector and Government Are Reshaping Male Empowerment

For too long, conversations about men’s mental health and accountability stayed behind closed doors. That changes now. On July 22, 2025, a historic partnership between the The Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) Chamber of Commerce and Industry (R3CCI) and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security (MHSSS) turned bold words into concrete action.

Together, we launched the BRAVE Centre, a dedicated space at West Central Mall in Leonora. It’s a commitment. A promise that men and boys will no longer face life’s pressures without help, or hide their pain in silence. https://www.r3cci.org/about

Why BRAVE? And Why Now?

BRAVE is an acronym with a mission:

  • Build your legacy
  • Reclaim manhood
  • Activate goals
  • Visualize success
  • Execute fearlessly

This is a direct response to rising gender-based violence and the emotional fallout many men experience but don’t address. The BRAVE Centre offers support, accountability, and personal development for men, while also providing youth-friendly services for schoolchildren and teens.

West Central Mall Sets the Standard

What made this initiative possible? A powerful donation. West Central Mall, one of R3CCI’s most active members, offered the space rent-free for an entire year. This in-kind contribution is more than generous, it’s symbolic. It shows the private sector doesn’t just sell products. We shape communities. Bhabita Albert, President of R3CCI and Managing Director of the Mall, made it clear:

“Men are expected to be protectors, providers, partners. That’s not sustainable without mental strength and emotional support.”

What Happens Inside the BRAVE Centre?

Two tracks guide the Centre’s work:

  1. Men’s Empowerment Hub
  2. A safe space for men to access counseling, group discussions, and personal development strategies. No judgment. Just growth.
  3. Youth-Friendly Services
  4. Homework assistance, emotional support, and structured mentorship for teenagers—especially boys who need guidance, not discipline.

Every service is grounded in dignity, compassion, and a firm push toward accountability.

The Ministry’s Role: Action, Not Talk

Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud called the launch “historic” and urgent. She reminded us that men must not be excluded from the solution to domestic violence. They must be empowered, heard, and held accountable. Her team, including Dr. Cona Husbands, emphasized healing and responsibility, not stereotypes. Their leadership reflects what happens when policy meets people.

The Call: Business Owners, Step Forward

Now, we turn to our fellow business leaders in Region Three and beyond. The model is set. The partnership works. We invite you to join us by contributing space, resources, funding, or mentorship to help expand this impact. Your brand can be known for more than profit. It can be part of the solution.

The Beginning of Something BRAVE

The BRAVE Centre is not the end goal—it’s a foundation. From here, we can change lives, communities, and generations.

The Region Three Chamber of Commerce and Industry thanks all who showed up, donated, and stood beside us. Together, we are proving that Region Three truly is the Epicenter of Opportunities, especially for those who never had one before.
