“We couldn’t be happier to welcome Lane Kiffin as the new head coach for the University of Mississippi in our hometown of Oxford,” said owner Griffin Tanner. “Lane is an experienced coach, and his appointment brings a lot of excitement and passion to our city. We look forward to his being part of our community for years to come.”
The University recently announced Kiffin’s appointment as the 39th head coach of Rebel football starting in 2020. Kiffin previously coached at FAU, Alabama, USC, Tennessee and the Oakland Raiders of the NFL. His NCAA record is 61-34.
The appointment marks a new chapter for football at Ole Miss for at least the next four years per his $16.2MM contract.
Given Kiffin’s history at Alabama under Nick Saban, optimism is running high. Overjoyed Oxford fans turned out to meet him upon his arrival at the airport.
"Thank you. I'm extremely honored to stand here today. The support and excitement at the airport was amazing. To get off the plane and have what seemed like thousands of people there just made me feel so welcome to myself and now to my family today,” stated Kiffin.
