French Press For Seniors With Osteoarthritis: No Tools Required For Disassembly

Apr 24, 2023

Make your morning cup of coffee, without busting out your toolkit! This French Press design is easier to use, easier to clean, and just easier in general, with no tools required, ever. Just twist, and go.

Seven.

That's the number of French Press coffee makers I've either broken or lost the attachment knob for over the years - and as I get older, it only seems to happen more frequently.

What about you? If you're reading this blog, I'm guessing you're in a similar situation, and believe me, we're not alone.

Just in case you're new to using a French Press, let me explain.

Traditionally, a French Press coffee maker uses a small “attachment knob” to hold the device together, and this knob has to be removed using a wrench or pliers to clean and maintain the coffee maker. Sounds simple enough, right?

The problem is, you're literally using your toolbox every time you clean your coffee maker - that's not something we do for any other kitchen appliance.

SYL Prosper doesn't think you should have to use tools on your French Press either, that's why they upgraded the traditional hardware using a patent-pending wing nut design that requires no tools, ever.

It's a simple upgrade, but a necessary one if you ask me. Take a look for yourself, and see what you think, just visit https://www.amazon.com/coffee-press-Stainless-Disassemble-Resistant/dp/B0B6KLVWF1?maas=maas_adg_334405100C816A658E536EBA58E13062_afap_abs&ref_=

The innovative design allows the entire French Press to be disassembled using only a single wing nut, which has been manufactured small enough to fit easily inside the coffee maker, but large enough to be manipulated by hand. While this removes the need for tools, it also makes the device easier to clean and use for individuals with arthritis or mobility restrictions - and that's also important.

Personally, I still have lots of coordination in my hands, so this isn't a problem for me yet - but just the thought of my aging parents trying to work a French Press with pliers every day is ridiculous. There has to be an easier way, and there is.

They didn't stop at just making it easier to use, though, it was clearly the most important improvement. Since you're not likely to lose or break the attachment knob, because there isn't one - they made the whole coffee maker more durable.

SYL Prosper engineers designed the new coffee maker using materials that are highly resistant to damage caused by repeated assembly and disassembly for cleaning, accidental drops, and temperature fluctuations. Though the attachment knob is thought to be the most often damaged or lost part, the new French Press design also uses durable materials for the handle, and the carafe itself.

I'm going to get a little technical here - but only a bit. If you don't care about the materials they used, or what makes them better, just feel free to jump ahead a bit - or go straight to the link at the bottom to see it for yourself.

Constructed with 304 Grade Stainless Steel, the handle materials are considered food safe, as well as highly resistant to rust and corrosion. This particular grade of steel is also known to have a low thermal co-efficient, which allows the handle to stay cooler to the touch, even when the French Press is full of hot water or coffee.

That's not all though, the French Press also uses borosilicate glass, which is more resistant to thermal shocks than any other glass commonly used today. This helps the French Press to maintain its structural integrity over years of daily use, because the borosilicate glass resists the expansion caused by high temperatures when it's full, and the strain caused by contraction during cooling after it's empty.

It's not all about ease of use and durability though - did you notice that in all this time, we never talked about the actual coffee-making process?

To be fair, a French Press is a pretty simple machine, so there's only so much room for variation. However, they do use a high-quality double filtration design, which makes the French Press ideal for use with medium or fine-ground coffee, tea bags, or even loose tea.

Since this might just be the last French Press you ever buy - I sure hope it's the last one I ever buy, SYL Prosper also includes 2 bonus filters with every kit. Just so you're prepared.
