Have you ever had one of those days when the bartender has to ask why you're bringing weapons into the bar?

If you've already heard this joke, then you probably already know all about character builds too - so let me save you some reading. You can skip my whole blog, and get straight to the good stuff, at https://stellardragons.com/the-glass-walker-character-build-guides/dnd-3-5/

"Mimics," you say, laughing, as you walk in the door.

The bartender laughs too.

Your friends start laughing.

The table lets out a little chuckle.

Everyone hacks the table to pieces, and it's a good time.

Oh, good times... the thing is, if you ask me, the game has gotten a little... complicated.

Now, that's not a bad thing - but it can be a little frustrating, especially when you have new players getting started, or just don't have the time to dig into all the details.

Getting Started Faster, Without Consequence

Let me tell you about a little problem I face, frequently, when building a new character, even an NPC - but it's so much worse building a real character, or heaven forbid, starting a new game.

There are so many options, so many pathways, that it's practically impossible to choose, or even wrap my head around them all.

So I found a little shortcut, a free resource, that makes it super easy.

It's called Stellar Dragons, and you may have heard of them, they're a popular online resource for both Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) and Pathfinder enthusiasts.

In particular, I'm talking about their D&D 3.5 character builds - because it's a fairly comprehensive list, and personally, I'm happy to let my players use any build off the list.

How Does It Work & Why Should You Care?

Because it's going to make your life a whole lot easier - that's why.

Stellar Dragons offers up to five variations for customizing characters within each sub-class, so your options are practically limitless. You can tailor your characters to your specific play style preferences, party composition, and campaign setting, with much greater variation than found in the standard Player’s Handbook.

In case I haven't said it often enough yet, all of this is absolutely free, and you or your players can use as many builds as you wish with no obligation. However, this is important - Stellar Dragons does advise players to speak to their Dungeon Master or Game Master before choosing a build, to ensure it will be allowed at their table.

From Basic To Complex

With 5 options to choose from in each sub-category, the Stellar Dragons character build team is aware that not all builds will be acceptable at all tables, however, all builds maintain strict adherence to the rules.

For groups with simplified characters, each build also includes mono-class options, which require your characters to level up in only a single class.

So how can you make the best use of them? That depends on what you need.

These builds can be used as a complete starting point, allowing you to choose a pre-built character of any class and level, and drop them immediately in a game. They can also be used as templates for growth throughout the game, to help you determine the best ways to level up existing characters, to reach specific goals.

One popular example is “The Dread Necromancer” build, which provides techniques for building 5 types of undead-focused magic wielders. These include the Mono-Class Necromancer, the Blood Mage, the Bad Touch Lady, the HiveMind, and the Witch-Knight.

Every build contains full instructions to take your character from the 1st level, all the way to the 20th level, or to generate a character starting at any level in between.

In short, it's like character creation on easy mode - and that matters.

Don't spend all your time looking up rules and building a character - Stellar Dragons lets you jump right into the game, without losing out on the uniqueness of custom characters.

Even if you don't need a new character build, it's worth checking them out.
