Arlington health insurance Agent offers hope to cancer patients with Medicare

Health Insurance Agents in Arlington continue to offer increased benefits to millions of Americans who were previously uninsured or underinsured. And according to one recent study, that includes giving cancer patients a chance to extend their lives. According to the Journal of the National Cancer Institute, cancer survival rates rose in states that expanded Medicaid under the ACA than in those that did not. The increase includes Black patients and those in rural areas, providing more evidence that expanding Medicaid eligibility in all states is something all states should consider.

Clearly, the hope is that these rising statistics positively impacted individuals and families with health insurance in Arlington who were previously uninsured or underinsured. Approximately 2.5 million patients in 42 states who were recently diagnosed with cancer were included in the study. These participants were analyzed before and after states could expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. The two groups were followed until September 30, 2013 and December 31, 2017, respectively, with two-year survival rates rising from 80.58% pre-ACA to 82.23% post-ACA in expansion states. The improvement was larger among Black patients and those in rural areas.

Rick Thornton, an Arlington health insurance agent, said the latest statistics are once again the result of what the current administration has been pushing for since President Biden took office last year. Given the pandemic and rising cost of living, the fact that there is still affordable healthcare is a major win for millions of Americans. With that said, 12 states had not yet expanded Medicaid as of April, according to a report by Health Day. Thornton said that as more states sign on to offering expansion, there’s no telling how many more Americans can receive life-saving treatments.
