The Citizens Commission on Human Rights of Florida (CCHR), announced recently that they will be hosting a showing of the popular documentary, “Dead Wrong” in their downtown facility. The full-screen showing will be presented to visitors at no charge.

The theme of “Dead Wrong” is that children are being put at risk by the use of psychiatric medications which have no valid scientific basis of use. Documented instances of children dying as a result of psychiatric medication are included on the CCHR site (www.cchr.org).

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH), “We do not have an independent, valid test for ADHD, and there is no data to indicate that ADHD is due to a brain malfunction.” (NIH Consensus statement) [1]

A major danger is that childhood behaviors can be diagnosed as mental disorders for various reasons including Federal reimbursements. Parents who feel their child is being forced into taking prescription mental drugs are advised by CCHR to follow these steps:

1) Demand to see the lab test, brain scan, blood test or X-ray that proves the child has a mental disorder.

2) If drugs are recommended for a child, print the international drug warnings for the doctor or psychiatrist. (Practitioners may sometimes get their data on drug safety from sales reps.)

3) If the psychiatrist or doctor claims evidence of a “disorder”, parents may forward the claim information to CCHR for review.

4) Be aware of non-drug, non-harmful methods for treating childhood issues. Parents have a right to another opinion, and data on alternatives.

Following are the number of children currently on psychiatric drugs in the United States:

0-1 Years 274,804 babies on psychiatric drugs

2-3 Years 370,778 toddlers on psychiatric drugs

4-5 Years 500,948 kindergarteners on psychiatric drugs

6-12 Years 4,130,340 schoolkids on psychiatric drugs

13-17 Years 3,617,593 youths on psychiatric drugs

Diagnosis for these prescriptions is not done by medical test, but a checklist of behaviors according to the viewpoint of the observer.

“The epidemic of child drugging in the U.S. is not in the interests of these children or their parents,” said Diane Stein, President of CCHR Florida. “False diagnoses must be resisted if we are to hope for competent future generations.”

About CCHR: Initially established by the Church of Scientology and renowned psychiatrist Dr. Thomas Szasz in 1969, CCHR’s mission is to eradicate abuses committed under the guise of mental health and enact patient and consumer protections. It was L. Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology, who brought the terror of psychiatric imprisonment to the notice of the world. In March 1969, he said, “Thousands and thousands are seized without process of law, every week, over the ‘free world’ tortured, castrated, killed. All in the name of ‘mental health.’” For more information visit, www.cchrflorida.org
